February 21st - First Sunday of Lent
FAREWELL MASS FOR FATHER PETER MUSHI,
AJ, INSTALLATION OF FR. NESTORIO NEW PASTOR AND BLESSING
OF OUR NEW ALTAR: This is to inform you that on
Tuesday February 23, 2010, at 6.30 p.m. as a parish, we
shall have a farewell Mass for Fr. Peter Mushi, AJ,
installation of Fr. Nestorio Agirembabazi, AJ, new
pastor and blessing of St. Angela Merici new Altar. The
Holy Mass will be presided over by Most Rev. Josu
Iriondo, Auxiliary Bishop of New York. You are all
warmly welcome on that special event.
ANNUAL STEWARDSHIP APPEAL 2010: Saint Angela
Merici Church always supports the Appeals of the
Archdiocese of New York very generously each year. For
this year’s annual Stewardship appeal, we please humbly
ask every parishioner to cooperate by pledging $25.00
per person. This way we shall reach our goal smoothly
and in a very short time. Parishioners will receive
special envelops for this collection. Thank you for your
cooperation and God bless you during this season of
Lent.
THE WAY OF THE CROSS DURING LENT: At St. Angela
Merici Catholic church, the service of the way of the
cross will be done every Thursday at 6:30 pm in Spanish
and on Fridays at 7:00pm.
ABSTINENCE: During Lent, abstinence from meat on
Fridays is obligatory in the United States as elsewhere,
and it is sinful not to observe this discipline without
a serious reason. Abstinence must be observed by all
Baptized Catholics who have completed their14 year and
above.
FASTING: The law of fasting requires a Catholic
from the 18th Birthday to 59th Birthday, to reduce the
amount of food eaten from normal during the season of
Lent.
WHO ARE EXCUSED FROM FAST AND ABSTINENCE? All
those outside the age limits, those with unsound mind,
the sick, the frail, pregnant or nursing women, manual
laborers according to need, guests at a meal who cannot
excuse themselves without giving great offence or
causing enmity and other situations of moral or physical
impossibility to observe the penitential discipline.
HOMEBOUND: Whoever knows catholic
believers who are homebound and are in need of receiving
holy communion or the sacrament of reconciliation,
should come to the parish office and provide us with the
names, address and phone numbers of each homebound
person in order to make it possible for the Priests,
Deacon or Eucharistic ministers to reach them during
this season of Lent.
